Galapagos diving proved very surprising. Expecting lovely warm water on the equator the temperature varied from a best of 23 to a worst of 16. This is like being at home. I wore a 5mm titanium wetsuit and a 5mm jacket on top. Along with a hood and kevlar gloves (the rocks are very sharp) I was ok.

The current is sometimes ripping and a reef hook was often essential although they can be a nuisance especially when you're hanging from the boat by one when you've just rolled in. Visibility was not brilliant - about 15-20 metres.

We spent a lot of time hanging on reef hooks waiting for a sight of something like a hammerhead shark. We did see lots of them schooling in their hundreds. Also Whale sharks as long as your back garden.

Altogether I logged about 25 dives on the trip which was good. The quality of the diving is amazing and I want to go back.
